Nikko Toshogu

Nikko Toshogu is a shrine located in Nikko city, Tochigi prefecture,Japan. This shrine enshrines the first general of the Edo shogunate - Ieyasu Tokugawa.

By master craftsmen gathered from all over the country, lacquer and rich colors are added to the building, and many sculptures are decorated.

The most famous sculpture is three wise monkeys, See no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil.

The motif of three monkeys is found in ancient Egypt and Angkor Wat, it traveled through the Silk Road and was transmitted to Japan via China.
